Our mission is to provide your child with an active, enjoyable and safe program dedicated to nurturing an environmental ethic and respect for nature.

Qualified staff with a ratio of 1:10 (instructors to children) to a maximum of 30 campers, ages 6 – 11, will conduct sessions with a different environmental theme each week and will include fun activities, crafts and outdoor adventures. A daily swim in our supervised pool will help cool the campers and add to the fun.

It is the goal of the staff to provide children with an enjoyable and safe program. Parents can help by following these simple guidelines.

  • Children must turn the minimum age required before 1 January, 2012.
  • Do not cause your child undue worry.  Be sure to drop off and pick up your child at the designated times.
  • For your child's comfort and protection, no open toed shoes.  Be sure to include hats, sunscreen and extra beverages in their backpack.
  • All camps continue to operate during inclement weather.  Please dress your child accordingly.
  • For your child's well being, make sure staff is aware of any allergies or medications.
  • Make sure our staff is informed of any family or behavioural concerns.  Our staff will make every effort to accommodate your child's needs; however we reserve the right to withdraw your child from the program should their behaviour cause harm to themselves, other participants, staff or property.

Weekly Themes for 2012

Week 1: Mantracker  2-6 July
“Know your land, know your prey”. Start off the summer by getting to know Landon Bay inside and out! During this week campers will learn to track and identify animals, set up camp in the wild, read compasses and maps and learn what to do if they get lost in the wilderness. At the end of the week they will use these skills to complete a “Mantracker” mission.

Week 2: River Monsters  9-13 July
“The one that didn’t get away!” Join us to investigate both bodies of fresh and salt water, fishing, fascinating invasive species and how to protect these unique creatures.

Week 3: Bill Nye the Science Guy  16-20 July
“Consider the Following…” Enter the Landon Bay lab and investigate natural disasters, outer space, electricity and energy, pollution and micro-organisms. Campers will learn to ask questions, create hypotheses and test theories in this week filled with experiments.

Week 4: Animal Planet   23-27 July
Come with us to tour the world, and explore animals that live in exotic locations. We will be stopping in North America, South America, Africa, Asia and Australia to learn about the always intriguing and sometimes endangered animals that live there.

Week 5: Fear Factor  30 July – 3 August
Apparently “fear is not a factor for you.” During this week the campers will face their fears as they learn about spiders and insects, mice and rodents, and the monsters under the bed. They will test their stomachs as they eat new and interesting foods and discover what it is like to lose their senses.

Week 6: Mythbusters   6-10 August
Fact or fiction… it’s up to you to decide. Decode commonly known myths surrounding insects, birds, plants, environmental protection, and animals. What is true? What is false? We will find out together!

Week 7: Crocodile Hunter    13-17 August
“Crikey!” It’s going to be a wild ride as we travel downstream to learn about crocodiles, alligators and their reptilian cousins. The campers will experience these creatures first hand with a visit from Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo complete with a crocodilian.

Week 8: Animals After Dark   20-24 August
“An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language.” Learn about the animals that sleep by day and hunt by night. Join us as we investigate the world of bats and caves, owls, raccoons, foxes, cats and fireflies. We will end this week with our annual camp-out ($10) where we hike through the woods at night to find these creatures at their best.
